The YouTube Analytics dashboard is where creators learn how their channel and individual videos are performing. The trick is finding the right report: channel-level views tell you how your library is doing, while video-level reports explain the reach and engagement of one upload. This practical guide shows you where to click in YouTube Studio on desktop and mobile, how to navigate Analytics tabs, and how to use Advanced Mode without getting lost in numbers.

What Is the YouTube Analytics Dashboard?
YouTube Studio is the official workspace for managing a channel. Its main Dashboard shows a management snapshot, including recent uploads and account information. YouTube Analytics is a separate reporting area inside Studio. It organises performance information into channel and individual-video views, with additional reports depending on your account, content type and eligibility.
Use Analytics to answer a concrete question such as “Did my tutorials gain more watch time this month?” or “Where did viewers find my newest Short?” If your goal is to understand what CTR and retention mean rather than locate them, see the broader VidTraffic guide below.

How to Access YouTube Analytics in YouTube Studio
Step 1: Open YouTube Studio
On a computer, open studio.youtube.com and sign in with the Google account that has access to your channel. Select the correct channel if you manage more than one.
Step 2: Select Analytics
In the left navigation, choose Analytics. Do not confuse this with the Dashboard item higher in the menu: Dashboard is the workspace overview; Analytics contains the reporting tools.
Step 3: Choose a Tab and Date Range
Start with Overview for a quick channel summary, then move to Content or Audience when you have a specific question. Set a useful reporting window, such as the last 28 days, and make sure you know whether the period includes an incomplete day. Account layouts may differ during YouTube’s Studio rollout that began in July 2026.

How to View Analytics for a Specific YouTube Video
To find a single video’s report, return to the left menu, open Content, and select the upload you want to investigate. Choose Analytics on that video’s page. You will see a more focused view, including reports such as Reach and Engagement where available.
- Pick one video that answers a clear question, for example a newly published tutorial with unusually low views.
- Open its Reach information to investigate registered impressions, impression click-through rate and discovery sources.
- Switch to Engagement to inspect watch time and the audience-retention report, when processed and available.
- Keep the same date or since-published comparison window before making conclusions.
An important distinction: the Content tab in channel Analytics groups formats across the channel, whereas Reach and Engagement can appear on individual-video Analytics pages. The two levels should not be treated as interchangeable.

How to Check YouTube Analytics on Mobile
Install or open the YouTube Studio app on your phone and sign in to the relevant channel. For channel reports, tap Analytics in the bottom navigation. To inspect one upload, tap Content, select the video, and choose View More in its Analytics section. The available charts and report controls can differ from the desktop version.
The regular YouTube app may also show a compact channel Analytics summary, but it does not replace the full Studio reporting experience. For custom breakdowns, advanced comparisons and exports, use a desktop browser.

YouTube Analytics Dashboard Tabs Explained
The best tab depends on the question you are trying to answer. Use this map to avoid looking for a channel-level report inside an individual video, or the other way around.
| Report or area | Where to find it | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | Channel and video Analytics | Quick performance summary, realtime and recent activity |
| Content | Channel Analytics | Comparing videos, Shorts, live streams and discovery patterns |
| Reach | Individual-video Analytics | Impressions, click response and sources of discovery |
| Engagement | Individual-video Analytics | Watch time, viewing depth and retention |
| Audience | Available channel or video view | New/returning viewers and available audience patterns |
| Revenue | Eligible monetized accounts | Earnings and monetization reporting |
| Trends | Channel Analytics where available | Discovering possible topics and viewer interests |
Not every account has every report. Revenue depends on monetization eligibility; some detailed audience or traffic reports are limited when too little data is available. Also remember that the Studio interface is being updated gradually, so labels and placement may change.
How to Use Advanced Mode in YouTube Analytics
Advanced Mode helps when the default chart cannot answer your question. On desktop, open Analytics, select a relevant report, and choose Advanced Mode or See More. The extended report lets you work with breakdowns, metrics, filters, content selections and comparisons. The exact controls may vary in the revised Studio experience.
A Practical Comparison: Did My Recent Tutorials Improve?
- Open a channel or video report that relates to your question. Choose Advanced Mode or See More.
- Select a clear time window. For channel trends, compare the last complete 28 days with the previous 28 days.
- Use Add Comparison to compare date ranges or related videos, depending on what the report supports.
- Apply a relevant breakdown or filter, such as video, traffic source or geography; remove unrelated filters.
- Review the result, note possible causes, then Save the report or Export current view if needed.
Suppose a tutorial group received 20% more views in the later period. Before crediting a new thumbnail, check whether you published more videos, promoted existing content, or changed the content mix. A good comparison narrows the explanation; it does not prove causation by itself.

How to Compare YouTube Analytics Date Ranges Without Misreading the Data
Always compare compatible periods. Seven days with seven days is usually more meaningful than seven days with 28. For published videos, compare similar time since publication when that matters. Keep Shorts and long-form separate when their distribution patterns are fundamentally different.
- Check whether today’s reporting period is incomplete before interpreting a sudden dip.
- Document extra uploads, paid promotion, seasonality or another change in distribution.
- Do not assume every view generated a registered thumbnail impression.
- Use watch time, audience response and traffic sources alongside view counts instead of judging by a single number.
Beginning August 24, 2026, YouTube changed when a view is counted across video formats. YPP earnings and eligibility still use their own qualifying measures. This matters when comparing historical advice with current dashboards; always check the metric definition for the report you are reading.
For an in-depth explanation of discovery metrics, see YouTube Reach Analytics Explained.
Why Is My YouTube Analytics Dashboard Missing Data?
A missing chart is not always a technical failure. Start by checking the account and channel you signed into, the video or channel level, the selected date range, and whether the report exists on your device. Some metrics take time to process, and privacy limits can suppress low-volume geography, traffic-source or demographic details.
| What you notice | What to check first |
|---|---|
| No Analytics menu | Confirm channel access and the correct Google account. |
| No Revenue tab | Check monetization eligibility for the channel. |
| No retention graph yet | Allow reporting time; check whether the video has enough data. |
| Desktop/mobile mismatch | Open desktop Studio; some mobile reports are limited. |
| Charts differ from a tutorial | Studio’s 2026 interface rollout may show a different layout. |
| Unexpected missing segments | Check filters, date range and low-volume data limits. |
If the same problem persists after these checks, consult YouTube Help rather than changing channel settings at random. Changes to a report interface do not by themselves mean your channel lost reach.
YouTube Studio vs VidTraffic: What Is the Difference?
YouTube Studio is the official source of your channel analytics and advanced reporting. VidTraffic is a complementary creator tool: it can help organise channel-level performance patterns, compare established uploads against your own channel’s median, and connect findings with planning and AI tools. It does not replace YouTube Studio, and it does not give access to another creator’s private analytics.

Turn Analytics into a creator workflow. Connect your own channel to VidTraffic, review video performance against a relevant channel baseline, and move from reports to your next content decision. Frequently Asked Questions
Is YouTube Analytics free?
Yes. YouTube Studio provides Analytics for channels without a separate reporting subscription. Specific monetization and audience reports depend on eligibility and data availability.
What is the difference between the YouTube Studio Dashboard and Analytics?
Dashboard is the general channel management overview. Analytics is the reporting area for channel and video performance. If you only see upload cards, open Analytics from the left menu.
How can I see Analytics for one video?
In desktop YouTube Studio, go to Content, select the video, and open Analytics. Reports such as Reach and Engagement explain that specific upload rather than the channel as a whole.
Can I access YouTube Analytics from my phone?
Yes. In the YouTube Studio app, tap Analytics for channel reports or Content > video > View More for a single upload. Some detailed reports may require desktop Studio.
Why can I not see Advanced Mode?
Check that you are using a desktop browser and the correct reporting area. YouTube may show Advanced Mode or See More, and Studio’s updated interface can differ across accounts.
Can I view another channel’s private YouTube Analytics?
No. Public channel statistics are different from private Analytics. Access to private metrics requires permission from the channel owner or authorized manager.
The Simple Takeaway
Start with a question, open the correct level of YouTube Analytics, and select a meaningful time range. Use channel reports for broad patterns, video reports for specific uploads, and Advanced Mode when you need comparisons or more detail. Then choose one concrete next action instead of reacting to every changing number.
